About
Bio/Description

Harim Kwon (co-founder) is an Associate Professor of English linguistics at the Department of English Language and Literature, Seoul National University, and the director of SNU Multilingual Phonetics Lab. She is primarily a phonetician and laboratory phonologist, broadly interested in the nature of the cognitive representations of human speech sounds and the relation between these representations and their physical aspects. Her research typically uses empirical data from monolingual speakers of specific languages, multilingual speakers, or learners of an additional languages, to study the consequences of speakers-listeners' linguistic experiences (e.g., learning first or additional languages) on their phonological knowledge, and their perception and production of speech. Some of her recent projects examine (1) the role of grammatical factors in the process of spontaneous speech imitation, (2) language-specific phonetic knowledge about temporal organizations of speech sounds, and (3) articulatory aspects of human speech sounds.
